Power to nearly 200 homes and businesses was lost on Friday when a suspected drunk driver struck a pole knocking out power in south Bakersfield.

The man was speeding on Hughes Lane when he lost control of his vehicle and struck the pole, the CHP reports.

The driver was arrested after Highway Patrol officers gave the driver a field sobriety test to determine if he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

“It was obvious that he was intoxicated,” said CHP Officer Jake Johnson. “In fact, he admitted to consuming several beers before he exited the vehicle.”

At the time of the crash, the boy’s brother and his girlfriend were also inside the vehicle, but no one was seriously injured.
