Chaca Chaca Chacatrozo Candy From Mexico Contains Lead

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) announced April 17, 2008 that Chaca Chaca Chacatrozo candy imported from Mexico contains lead and should not be consumed. The CDPH is trying to find and contact the distributors of the candy to make sure it is removed from all stores.

Chaca Chaca Chacatrozo is a candy made of fruit pulp and is coated with salt and chili powder. The candy comes in a clear plastic bag and contains 50 individually wrapped pieces of candy. The front of the bag has a picture of a red locomotive and 'Chacatrozo' is printed at the top and bottom of the bag.

Recent analysis by CDPH determined that Chaca Chaca Chacatrozo candy contained as much as 0.30 parts per million (ppm) of lead. California considers such products with lead levels in excess of 0.10 ppm to be contaminated.

Lead exposure can cause brain and kidney damage, and is especially damaging to young children and pregnant women. The symptoms of lead exposure include mausea, headaches, constipation, seizures, and coma. Children and pregnany women who have consumed this product maywant to contact a physician to see if medical testing is necessary.
Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Jenny Albano

The driver of a semi-truck was killed in a truck accident, Thursday, after her big rig flipped over on San Diego (405) Freeway.

The accident occurred on the northbound side of the 405 Freeway at Long Beach Freeway Interchange.
Parents of Jessica Lunsford Plan Lawsuit Against Sheriff's Office

Jessica Lunsford's brutal and tragic death made national news. The nine-year-old girl was kidnapped from her home on February 23, 2005. Three weeks later, following a massive search, authorities discovered her body in a grave located about 150 yards from her home. She had been kidnapped, raped and buried alive.

John Couey, a registered sex offender, was sentenced to death last year for her murder.

Just over three years later, Jessica's parents are planning to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the Citrus County Sheriff's Office, over allegations of neglect.

The agencies' negligence "directly and indirectly led to the death of Jessica Lunsford," read the intent-to-sue letter sent a day earlier by Lunsford and his ex-wife, Angela Wright.

At the news conference, Lunsford deflected questions about his motivations for suing. In an interview afterward, he offered only a veiled criticism of the sheriff's handling of the case.

"We thank people everyday of our lives for the things they've done for us," he said. But "then we learn ... and we make more changes because sometimes we learn more than we need to know."

Those people close to the case believe the lawsuit will likely include two core issues: whether or not authorities adequately tracked Couey, a registered sex offender, before Jessica's disappearance.

Also, how authorities could have missed Jessica, if she was alive inside Couey's residence for days while officials investigated the area and surrounding homes.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Chrissie Cole

Daniel Rodriguez, Attorney at Law

Daniel graduated from Arvin High School in 1972 and went on to obtain a bachelor's degree in electronic engineering from Cal Poly State University in San Luis Obispo in 1977. Thereafter, Daniel attended UCLA Law School where he graduated in 1980 and moved to Bakersfield, California where he started practicing law in that same year.

Daniel has gone on to have a distinguished and successful legal career. He has obtained more multi-million dollar personal injury verdicts than any other attorney in the Southern San Joaquin Valley. He's won the highest verdict ever against the Los Angeles Police Department for a civil rights case involving a fleeing felon; he was the first attorney in the country to take to trial a witness protection case; he was the first attorney to take to trial a products liability case against a particular auto manufacturer of an SUV involved in a rollover accident.

Daniel has received numerous awards recognizing his success in Kern County. For instance, even though he is based in Bakersfield he has been nominated for "Trial Lawyer" of the year in Los Angeles; he received the first Presidential Award for trial lawyer success from the state-wide trial lawyer association, Consumer Attorneys of
California. Daniel is frequently asked to give lectures and presentations to attorneys on the art of persuasion as well as courtroom tactics and presentation. In short, Daniel is considered one of the best trial lawyers in the state.

Daniel attributes his success not only to hard work, but more importantly to his family. "Despite the fact that my parents had no formal education; they taught their kids that every dream is achievable through hard work and a good education. And, they were right!"

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Staff Writer
